Child Nutrition Programs
Welcome to the Child Nutrition Program Home Page. It is our goal to ensure that all students and faculty have access to healthy meals served in a safe and pleasing environment.
The Child Nutrition Program operates under the supervision of USDA and the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. These are federally assisted meal programs providing nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free meals to more than 29 million children each school day.
School meals must meet the applicable recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, as well as regulations established with the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010.
Any child at a participating school may receive one breakfast and one lunch meal daily at no cost to them through the National School Lunch Program's Community Eligibility Provision. All schools in the Etowah County School System have qualified and participated in this provision since school year 2023-2024.
Total Wellness Policy
The Etowah County Board of Education is dedicated to planning and providing a school environment that enhances learning and the development of lifelong wellness practices. The Board believes that healthy staff can more effectively perform their assigned duties and model appropriate wellness behaviors for students. This policy encourages a holistic approach to staff and student wellness that is sensitive to individual and community needs.
Parents & Stakeholders - If you would like to participate in the development, review, update and/or implementation of the local school wellness policy, please contact Laura Parker at (256)549-7560 or via email @laura_parker@ecboe.org.
