On March 26, 2009,
Southside High's IVC Mandarin Chinese class was featured in the annual T
+ L (Technology + Learning) Site Visit, sponsored by the National
School Board Association. School board members and superintendents from
around the country participate in this event, which focuses on
technology innovations in education.
Madison City Schools,
one of the three selected school districts, is one of the fastest
growing, highest performing public school systems in Alabama and is
located in Madison, the fastest growing city in the state. One of their
high schools, Bob Jones, currently receives Mandarin Chinese
instruction from Southside High School's Mandarin Chinese teacher,
Carolyn Nevin. Visitors at Bob Jones High School were able to watch Bob
Jones and Southside High students perform skits together, while only
speaking Mandarin Chinese.
