Etowah County Schools provide a rigorous, relevant education in a safe, student-centered environment that produces college and career ready graduates who contribute responsibly in a global community.

Welcome to Etowah County Schools

cosby
As the Superintendent, I invite you to explore our site
to learn about the numerous opportunities and
services we provide to over 8500 students learning
and growing in Etowah County Schools. I encourage
you to become involved in your child’s education - both inside
and outside of the classroom. Your involvement will help
your sons and daughters be more successful in all that they do.

Educators play a critical role of teaching knowledge
and skills, but children’s attitudes toward school and their habits of studying, reading and learning, are largely developed at home. Our children need all of our support to reach their potential as great thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The commitment we make now will benefit  our state and country as they become citizens of the world, competing, and collaborating in an ever-changing global environment.

There are many ways to be involved with your child’s education. This includes not only establishing routine homework habits, but also making time to get to know your child’s teachers, administrators, and other staff members at his or her school. Ask how you can become involved in your child’s educational experience.

We are dedicated to serving our students. Please join me in preparing our children to become successful citizens!

Sincerely,

Alan Cosby, Ed.D.

Superintendent

School Closure Update
School Closure Update
03/15/2020
March 15, 2020 I want to provide some information concerning the upcoming school closure as directed by Governor Ivey. The closure will place some hardships on families and we realize that appropriate arrangements must be made. As you know this is a rapidly evolving situation and we will make decisions as necessary. Please note the following: School Days and Closure: Schools will close at the end of the day on Wednesday, March 18 and will reopen on Monday, April 6. Please note that this could change. We will have a flexible attendance policy beginning on Monday, March 16 through Wednesday, March 18 and all absences will be excused should you choose not to send your child to school. All athletic and extracurricular activities will be canceled beginning Wednesday and will resume on Monday, April 6. Again, this is subject to change. During this time there will be no contests, weight training, conditioning, practices, or any other related activities.Effective immediately and through April 30 all field trips are canceled. Some of these can be rescheduled while others cannot. Please contact your local school administrator and/or the teacher(s) that are conducting the trip for specific details. No school work will be required during the closure period; however, schools may be sending home packets or online activities with your child that can help continue the learning process. These packets and work are optional. Please help keep your child engaged in some form of learning during the closure period. Due to the State of Emergency declaration the missed days will not be required to be made up. I will continue to update information as it is received. Thank you for your patience during this period and stay well. Sincerely, Alan Cosby, Ed.D. Superintendent

Covid-19 Prevention Methods
COVID-19 Update
03/12/2020
The Etowah County Schools continue to closely monitor the evolving news about the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation. Our schools will continue to work closely with and follow the guidance of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) as well as other agencies to receive guidance on steps we can take to minimize the risk in our schools and offices. Here’s what we’re doing now: Reminding and encouraging everyone in our schools to wash hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds, covering your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze, avoid touching your face, and if you are sick, stay home until your fever is gone for 24 hours without medication. Our schools will also be provided a supply of disinfectants, wipes, hand sanitizers, and other products to clean surfaces, doorknobs, bus seats, and high traffic areas. Making our schools a healthy and safe environment that provides a high-quality education to all students is our primary goal. We all play a major role in protecting ourselves and others during this sensitive time.
