Involve parents, students, community, and staff
in the development of the Schoolwide Title I plan, which includes the Parental
Involvement Plan. This plan establishes

Ø Annually hold a parent-teacher conference day. During this day, the principal and staff will inform the parents of the school’s participation in Title I, and the right of parents to be involved in the school.
Ø Provide parents timely information about programs, curriculum, assessment, and achievement expectations; if requested by parents, opportunities for regular meetings to review and assist in improving student progress.

Ø Provide a regular time for parents to meet with teachers to formulate suggestions, to participate in decisions relating to the education of their child, and to respond to any suggestions as soon as possible.

Ø Inform parents at the annual meeting and on the school Web site that they can make comments if they disagree on any aspect of the Schoolwide Plan, which includes the Parental Involvement Plan, or if some part of the plan is not satisfactory. These comments will be taken via e-mail or scheduled conferences.
Ø Jointly develop a school-parent-student compact that outlines the sharing of the responsibilities among the school, parents, and teachers, concerning the improvement of student academic achievement on the State’s high standards. This compact outlines the school’s responsibilities to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment. The compact also describes the responsibilities of the parent for supporting their child’s learning and participating in decisions relating to the education of their child. The compact addresses the importance of communication between the teachers and parents on an on-going basis through parent-teacher conferences and progress reports to parents. The compact will be reviewed and revised annually by the Title I Advisory Committee.

Ø Provide parents with opportunities to understand state academic and achievement standards, state and local assessments and student progress through conferences, parent-teacher conference day, periodic parent meetings that are held during the day at which time the school will explain how to understand:

Ø Provide materials and training to help parents to work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement.

Ø Educate teachers, pupil services personnel, principals, and other staff, with the assistance of parents, in the value and utility of contributions of parents, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and the school.

Ø Coordinate and integrate parent involvement activities that encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children.
Ø Ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meeting, and other activities is sent to parents of participating child in a format and, to what extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.
o Use technological tools to translate all school information into home language of students.
o Use ELL coordinator or aide to communicate necessary assessment information in a language parents can understand.
Ø Provide such other reasonable support for parental involvement activities under this section as parents may request.
ACCESSIBILITY
Etowah County Board of Education will provide a teacher of English as a Second Language and a paraprofessional for students needing services. This teacher or paraprofessional will provide parents with appropriate communication methods with the school faculty and staff to ensure academic progress and interpretation of assessment results. Parents with disabilities and parents of migratory students will be provided information in an easy to read format and assistance will be provided for understanding their child’s needs and academic progress.
