  Etowah County Legend

2014 ETOWAH COUNTY LEGEND....MRS. ANITA CAMPBELL
Anita Campbell came to Gaston in the fall of 1986 and began coaching the Lady Dawgs Varsity Softball team in the spring of '87.  She coached for 7 seasons and had a combined record of 139 wins and 58 losses.  Her first team made it to the State Tournament falling just short and placing third.  But the following year in 1988, her team accomplished its goal of winning the Class 2A State Championship.  The 1988 win began a string of 4 consecutive State titles from '88, '89, '90, and '91.  Her four state championship teams had a combined record of 109 wins and only 14 losses during those years.  The 1988 team outscored sectional opponents 92-9 and suffered no losses at the state tournament.  The 1991 team also ran through the state tournament without a loss.  Her 1989 team met up with the eventual 1A, 3A, 4A and 6A state champions and defeated them in seasonal tournament play.  During her years of coaching, her teams played many higher classification opponents and often walked away with victories and 1st place finishes.
During her years of coaching, she had ten players sign scholarships and play at the next level.  Mrs. Campbell still teaches at Gaston and supports athletics .  She is married to Dr. Jon Paul Campbell and has two sons, Tyler and Ryan who are both in medical school.

Our character word for the week is integrity. Integrity is defined as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

Because the politician was considered a man of integrity, most of the people voted for him in the last election.

Our vocabulary word for the week is ascetic. Ascetic is characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons.

Paul's nonconformity is not ascetic.  (Col 2:23)
