The largest two-year postsecondary educational institution in the state, GSCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate Degrees in Science, Arts and Applied Science.

The majority of the academic division graduates transfer to Jacksonville State University and to Auburn University. GPA reports indicate that they do as well as, or better than, native university students at both campuses.

JSU's main campus is in Calhoun County, approximately 20 miles southeast of downtown Gadsden. The university has seven colleges, offering 40 undergraduate  majors leading to a Bachelor's degree, 25 Master's degree programs and several doctorate degree programs.

JSU-Gadsden provides advanced studies for those acquiring a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree. Instruction is offered locally in accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing. A local MBA program is also offered.
